experiment Tatar is presenting an Equity-sanctioned production of a relatively new play at his 49-seat community theater space Several professional actors are in Tatar's cast and they all rise to the occasion lifting the performance quality of the production But the results are mixed mainly because Marina play the Bog of is a tedious hash of overwrought faux classic tragedy done up in modern dress Carr opens with paint-bynumbers symbolism setting her play a small farming town on the edge of a bog We can assume from the range of brogues the bog is someplace in Ireland Director Tatar clearly reveres leaden literary pretensions but he visually translate her thin ideas into theatrical worlds of either grim reality or fantastic imagination There are powerful performances from Janis Stevens as brooding troubled Hester and Allen Pontes as her sensitive ex-lover Carthage Their intensity prevents interest from wandering too far during lengthy patches of unnecessary exposition But Carr is unable to develop emotional bonds between the two despite the 10-year-old daughter to fight over and a dark secret to share Despite continual histrionics little drama because Carr provides no
