have had similarly disturbing experiences In Eagle County Colo and Howard County Va GOP supporters reported the FROM PAGE El seems particularly Saxe said Part of the reason is the distinctly different personalities of President Bush and his challenger Sen John Kerry said Vincent Hutchings an associate professor of political science at the University of Michigan it goes beyond said Hutchings who studies voter behavior Many Republicans he said still hold grudges against predecessor Bill Clinton And many Democrats remain angry about the 2000 presidential election believing Bush's presidency to be Hutchings noted The handling of the war in Iraq has sparked bitter debate among voters on both sides of these things add up to a very sharply divided country in which the stakes are perceived to be very Hutchings said Bob Keenan a Republican who lives in the largely liberal Curtis Park section of Sacramento has felt the sharp sting of political division in his neighborhood all good said Keenan an engineer at Aerojet feel the same way about issues related to our schools and our community But politically either on Team A or Team and if not on the right team considered a bad One day after assessing the sea of pro-Kerry placards on his street Keenan decided to anchor a sign supporting Bush and Vice President-Dick Cheney The sign lasted 24 hours pulled it up and threw it on the said Keenan noting that the task would have required some elbow grease just fall down It would have taken a few minutes of grunting to pull it Keenan rescued the sign only to find it in a bushes the following day He put it up again So far it has remained intact But for the time being Keenan has placed a moratorium I A li FREEDOM HANGS BY A THREAD CENTURY 16 GREENBACK LANE DOWNTOWN PiAZA 7 ti cy- experiment Tatar is presenting an Equity-sanctioned production of a relatively new play at his 49-seat community theater space Several professional actors are in Tatar's cast and they all rise to the occasion lifting the performance quality of the production But the results are mixed mainly because Marina play the Bog of is a tedious hash of overwrought faux classic tragedy done up in modern dress Carr opens with paint-bynumbers symbolism setting her play a small farming town on the edge of a bog We can assume from the range of brogues the bog is someplace in Ireland Director Tatar clearly reveres leaden literary pretensions but he visually translate her thin ideas into theatrical worlds of either grim reality or fantastic imagination There are powerful performances from Janis Stevens as brooding troubled Hester and Allen Pontes as her sensitive ex-lover Carthage Their intensity prevents interest from wandering too far during lengthy patches of unnecessary exposition But Carr is unable to develop emotional bonds between the two despite the 10-year-old daughter to fight over and a dark secret to share Despite continual histrionics little drama because Carr provides no
